Our dentists love supporting patients through the delivery of gentle cosmetic dental care. We know how much a cosmetic change to your smile can improve your self esteem, so it’s a job we don’t take lightly, and take a lot of pride in. Your dentist will always take care to provide you with the highest standard of care.
Cosmetic dentistry is a component of dentistry focused on improving the appearance of your teeth and smile. So, from small surface changes like teeth whitening to cosmetic changes like veneers, and through to straightening your teeth using QD Active Aligners.
Maintaining white teeth is tricky. All of the things we as humans love to eat and drink are playing against the whiteness of our teeth. Coffee, tea, red wine, Coca Cola, and even foods like beetroot and curries are all working against us. Life’s way too short to cut these foods and drinks out. We do recommend at least having a drink of water after these foods and drinks, to better protect your enamel but that won’t totally maintain that white colour.
Another element of our cosmetic dentistry is teeth straightening. These are invisible aligners that straighten your teeth gradually, with each set of aligners you receive moving closer towards that ideal position.
Aligners work in a similar way to traditional braces. They shift your teeth towards your ideal position gradually in the same way braces do. These aligners are better than traditional braces though as they’re more comfortable, removal, and importantly for many, invisible.
Veneers are a solution for anyone with small, chipped, or gapped teeth. A veneer is basically a new layer that’s placed over your teeth to create the illusion of fuller teeth. These come in a porcelain material or a composite resin material and they work to create that Hollywood smile. Veneers are practical too: they can protect the original tooth’s surface from damage.
Teeth missing from your smile can seriously affect your self esteem and how you present yourself. It can also affect the experience you have when eating. Combining restorative dental techniques with cosmetic dental, we use items like crowns, bridges, and veneers to restore your smile and improve its appearance.
A veneer is a layer of material we place over your tooth to create a more optimal sized tooth. By doing this to each tooth requiring it, we create a fuller set of teeth and improve the appearance of your smile.
Much like your actual teeth, how long your veneers last depends on how they’re maintained. A porcelain veneer can last more than 20 years if cared for meticulously. Realistically though, a porcelain veneer has an average lifespan of 10 years. Regular dental cleans and yearly checkups are recommended to maintain your veneers.
Similarly to traditional braces, the time Aligners take to achieve your desired set of teeth depends on the teeth we begin with. A complex case may take up to 18 months, whereas a simple case could take six months. An average ballpark is 12 months for this treatment. Your cosmetic dentist will discuss your options with you and give you a more accurate idea in your first consultation.
You should see results from teeth whitening after your first session with your cosmetic dentist, the results will continue to improve with consistent teeth whitening sessions.
This depends. It won’t last forever and to maintain your desired white teeth, you’ll need to freshen up your results with occasional whitening sessions. How long each session of whitening lasts though will depend on how you treat your teeth. Coffee, red wine, tea, and curries are all known to cause discolouration to your teeth.
We do recommend rinsing your mouth with water or mouthwash after enjoying teeth-staining food and drink.
